Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is on a national tour that seems like a prelude to a 2024 presidential campaign. And he is not mincing words about the Biden Administration.
DeSantis said that the president is throwing money at Ukraine without making a clear objective known.
The governor said this in an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends.”
This was the first time DeSantis has weighed in on the war in Ukraine. Biden has promised almost $200 billion in aid. And while he was finally speaking about the war, Biden was making a surprise visit to Kyiv to show U.S. support for the country. The war is close to its one-year mark now.
“They have, effectively, a blank-check policy with no clear strategic objective identified,” DeSantis said of the Biden administration.
DeSantis said that the United States has no interest in getting involved in a “proxy war” and he said Biden is giving “blank checks” to Ukraine.
The governor also referred to recent reports from Secretary of State Antony Blinken that China may be preparing to send weapons. They have already sent non-lethal military aid to Russia.
This all comes as tensions remain high between the U.S. and China. The communist country sent a spy balloon floating over the U.S. earlier this month.
“These things can escalate and I don’t think it’s in our interest to be getting into a proxy war with China getting involved over things like the borderlands, or over Crimea,” DeSantis said. “So I think it would behoove them to identify what is the strategic objective that they’re trying to achieve. But just saying it’s an open-ended, blank check, that is not acceptable.”
DeSantis said that Russia’s army has proven to be a third-rate military force and the real threat is if China becomes more of an ally with Russia.
