McCarthy Calls Biden’s New Disinformation Governance Board “Orwellian”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has some pretty pointed words for President Joe Biden’s new Disinformation Governance Board. He made a clear statement to the media on Thursday calling the president’s actions “Orwellian.”

President Biden announced this Disinformation Governance Board earlier in the week and said that it was being formed under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The new board will deal with alleged disinformation that is coming from Russia and “other places.”

McCarthy noted to the press that the Democrats were thinking that free speech is a “problem” and that the answer to this was “more government.”

“The notion that the same party that spent four years promoting the Russia collusion hoax, suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story, and equated parents to domestic terrorists believes it has the credibility to tell Americans what is true is laughable,” McCarthy said.

The House Minority Leader also noted that it was ironic that the person Biden has chosen to run this “Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board” was a political activist who has a history of believing and spreading disinformation.

McCarthy went further saying that it was easy for him to imagine that this leader would “abuse” the term disinformation so that they could suppress facts and spin information that might focus on the White House administration’s failures. He gave the failure of Biden’s team at the southern border as an example.

He also believes that the concept that the federal government would control speech sounded a lot like “Thought Police.” The reality is, according to McCarthy, that the president should drop this plan to establish a modern-day “Ministry of Truth.”

Nina Jankowicz is the person that President Biden has tapped to lead this new initiative. She has a history of spreading misinformation online and has worked to discredit the news story focused on Hunter Biden’s laptop. This story came into the spotlight just weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

When the White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, was asked about this new initiative, she responded by saying that she wasn’t sure who would oppose the effort. She hadn’t listened to Fox News. Several of the hosts at that network were heated over the Homeland Securities’ new Disinformation Governance Board.

Tucker Carlson referenced George Orwell’s 1984 saying that the “Ministry of Truth” will now be “giving law enforcement power to punish people who think the wrong things.” His show included the idea that disinformation was anything that the Left disagrees with.

Carlson certainly wasn’t alone. Brian Kilmeade and Sean Hannity also referenced Orwell’s novel. Kilmeade said that the Biden administration was not taking Orwell as a warning, but using his book as a manual. He also questioned if Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter has Democrats worried. He said that they must be concerned that the Party has lost its grip on Big Tech and that was what helped them win the 2020 election.

Hannity chimed in as well on the “Ministry of Truth” correlation. He said that Democrats don’t care about the First Amendment, they only care about it when it perfectly aligns with their values. Hannity said that this new board “is wrong, it is creepy, it is dangerous, it is 1984-ish, and it is yet another example that shows the Democrats’ real problem is with the concept of freedom itself.”

Sean Hannity took a shot at the Democratic Party saying that they “yearned for the days of the fairness doctrine.”

Hannity said they wanted this doctrine from the Federal Communications Commission revived and they wanted talk radio shut down and Fox News out of business.

Democrats want the GOP out of Washington and a “world where there is no dissent.”
