NYC Mayor Takes a More Personal Look at the Border Crisis, Instantly Sees the Problem

Weekends are made for doing something special. Taking in a museum, catching the ball game, and hitting the beach are favorites for many families. Not only can some fun be had and great food is eaten, but many good lessons can be learned. Sometimes these weekends can take you away from home too.

For NYC Mayor Eric Adams, the weekend took him to El Paso, TX where he got a unique and eye-opening perspective on the border. Touring the border itself, seeing the city, and visiting the detention centers for the new illegal immigrants and asylum seekers allowed him to see the problem in a way that President Joe Biden refuses to admit even exists. Seeing the realities of the situation as he toured with El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser has him proclaiming the need for federal help at the border.

This tour comes hot on the heels of NYC asking NY state for emergency mutual aid money to help shelter the asylum seekers that keep being bussed to the self-declared sanctuary city. In a statement, he clarified the problem for those in Albany as well as all NY taxpayers. “We are now seeing more people arrive than we have ever seen – averaging over 400 people each day this last week, with 835 asylum seekers arriving on one single day alone, the largest single-day arrival we’ve seen to date. All this is pushing New York City to the brink.”

As “tragic” as his pleas may seem, he is seeing the realities of his liberal agenda. By publicly claiming they would take those who need asylum and keep them safe by becoming a sanctuary city he opened the door to this happening. The good people along the border don’t need to take them on alone as places like NYC, Washington DC, and Martha’s Vineyard scream that they want them and will take them. Now that they have been given what they asked for, they cannot stand it.

Since the spring of 2022, Adams estimates 40,000 asylum seekers have shown up in NYC, forcing them to open 74 emergency shelters and four humanitarian relief centers. In the last week 3,100 have shown up, and 835 on January 12th alone. With Adams proclaiming an estimated cost of $2 billion, it won’t be easy for the city or its taxpayers. His Press secretary Fabien Levy explained why Adams chose to visit. Adams made the trip “to learn about what they are hearing from arriving seekers. The reality of the situation is these migrants are being promised things before they cross the border that are just not available.”

What they fail to understand is that this promise is only natural. From stories they hear from others, to what they understand when they hear the words, to the videos on tv, they keep hearing all these amazing stories of their people being treated amazingly. Considering what many are fleeing, a tent in central park in the 1980s would have been an upgrade.

Even if someone is telling them they will have an apartment, a job, or money just by showing up, it’s not a lie. It is true. NYC has programs to respond to this. They cannot fix their homeless problems, but they can spring into action for the illegals. They can figure out a place for them to live while their asylum is processed, and they can sure find funds to pay them and feed them. That’s the liberal way after all.

After leaving the border, Mayor Adams has seen the problem in a way Biden refused to see or even acknowledge its existence. This can only help him in making better decisions for NYC, but unfortunately, it will still be guided by the liberal agenda, so he won’t be dropping the sanctuary city title.

Instead, he’ll be taking taxpayer money from the state, yet again showing the rest of the state what kind of a drain NYC and its socialist roots are bringing to the state and the country.
